What does a Squarespace expert actually do?
A Squarespace expert sets the platform up so your site works as a sales tool, not just a nice template. That means planning the pages, writing them for search, building custom sections where the template stops, and handing it over so you can run it yourself.
Anyone can pick a Squarespace template and swap the photos. The difference shows up in the things you can't see on the demo:
- Pages planned around searches, one per service or product range, not everything crammed onto the home page.
- Titles, descriptions and URLs set by hand on every page, instead of left on the defaults.
- Custom code where the blocks run out, for layouts, buttons and forms the standard editor can't do.
- Images sized and compressed so the site stays quick on a phone.
- Forms that go somewhere useful, like your inbox, your CRM or a text message, not a form inbox nobody opens.
- A handover you'll actually use, so you can change prices, add photos and post updates without paying anyone.
Source Digital is a Squarespace Gold Partner. Tristan Sunde builds every site himself from Perth, for businesses right across Australia, with no outsourcing and one point of contact from quote to launch.
How much does a Squarespace website cost in Australia?
A Squarespace website from Source Digital costs $1,750 + GST for a single page, $3,250 + GST for a 5 to 8 page business site, and from $4,500 + GST for an online store. Every price is fixed and quoted in writing before any work starts.
On top of the build, you pay your Squarespace subscription straight to Squarespace, in your own name. You own the account and the site, so if you ever stop working with us, nothing gets switched off. Hosting across the platforms we build on runs roughly $10 to $50 a month.
Most service businesses are best on the business site, because a page per service is what lets you show up for each job you want more of. If you'd rather not make changes yourself after launch, ongoing website support starts from $200 a month.

Is Squarespace good for SEO?
Yes, Squarespace is good enough for SEO for most small businesses, as long as it's set up properly. The platform handles the technical basics like a secure connection, a sitemap and mobile layouts. What it can't do is decide what your pages should say.
Most Squarespace sites that don't rank have the same few problems: one page trying to cover every service, page titles left as "Home" or "Services", huge uncompressed images, and no clear answer to the question someone actually searched. As a Squarespace designer, these are the things we fix in every build:
- Research what people in your area search before choosing the pages.
- Write each page to answer one search in plain words, near the top.
- Set the SEO title, description and URL on every page and product.
- Add structured data so Google and AI tools like ChatGPT can read your services, area and FAQs.
- Connect Google Search Console and your Google Business Profile so you can see what's working.
Where Squarespace falls short is fine control at scale. If you need thousands of product pages, complex filters or very detailed technical SEO, Shopify or a custom build gives you more room. For a service business or a small shop, Squarespace is rarely what's holding the rankings back.
Should I use Squarespace, Shopify or WordPress?
Pick Squarespace if you want a good looking site you can edit yourself with nothing to maintain. Pick Shopify if selling products online is the main job. Pick WordPress if you need lots of custom features or integrations and don't mind more upkeep.
| Squarespace | Shopify | WordPress | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best for | Service businesses, portfolios, small shops | Online stores of any size | Content heavy sites and custom features |
| Editing it yourself | Easiest of the three | Easy for products, fiddlier for page layouts | Flexible, but more to learn |
| Updates and security | Handled by Squarespace | Handled by Shopify | You or your developer update plugins and the core |
| Selling products | Fine for a small range | Built for it | Through WooCommerce |
| Our build price (ex GST) | From $1,750 | From $4,500 | From $2,500 |
We build on all three, plus custom hand-coded sites, so there's no reason for us to push you towards one. For a fuller side by side on fees and features, read our Shopify vs Squarespace guide.
Can you fix or redesign an existing Squarespace site?
Yes. A lot of the work we do as a Squarespace expert is on sites people built themselves and then outgrew. Usually the design is fine and the problems sit underneath: slow pages, a muddled structure, missing SEO settings and forms nobody sees.
We start by checking what the current site already ranks for, so a website redesign doesn't throw away traffic you've already earned. Then we keep the pages that work, rebuild the ones that don't, and redirect any URL that changes so old links and Google results still land in the right place.
If you're on Wix or WordPress and want to move to Squarespace, it's the same approach. We rebuild the pages, carry your content across and set up redirects before the switch.
Who is Squarespace not right for?
Squarespace isn't the right call for every business, and a good Squarespace expert should tell you when to use something else.
- Large online stores. If you sell hundreds of products with variants, stock across locations or wholesale pricing, Shopify handles it better. See Shopify website design.
- Custom tools and portals. Instant quote calculators, member areas or RFQ systems need a custom website build.
- Sites where speed is everything. A hand-coded site will usually beat any website builder. Mago Rods moved off a Wix template to a hand-coded site and scores 100 for Lighthouse performance.
- Owners who will never log in. Squarespace's biggest strength is that you can edit it yourself. If you never will, that strength is wasted.
If any of those sound like you, we'll quote the platform that fits, not the one on this page.
How we build your Squarespace site
- A free 15 minute call. What you sell, who buys it and what you want the site to do.
- A fixed price quote. Pages, features and timeline in writing, usually the same day.
- Plan and write. I check what your customers search, map out the pages and write them with you.
- Design and build inside your own Squarespace account, so you own everything from day one.
- Review. You click through it on your phone and tell me what to change.
- Launch and handover. Domain connected, Search Console set up and a walkthrough of how to edit it yourself.
Hiring a Squarespace expert doesn't have to be slow. Most sites go live in 2 to 4 weeks. Enquiry forms can also feed into Omega CS, our CRM, which texts every new lead back in seconds from your own Australian mobile number. That matters because MIT and InsideSales found leads contacted within 5 minutes were 21 times more likely to qualify than leads contacted at 30 minutes.
