Koorta Boodjar supplies skilled people to construction, civil and mining projects across Western Australia. We built a 12 page site from their own brand guidelines, with the Bidi artwork by Lalita and Tameeka Colbung running through every page, and aimed it at what contractors and workers actually search.
Koorta Boodjar is an Aboriginal-owned workforce recruitment and labour hire business based in Balcatta, Perth. It was founded on the legacy of Senior Bibbulmun Elder Ken Colbung AM, MBE, and is owned and led by his family.
Koorta Boodjar means Heartland in Noongar. The business supplies tradespeople, operators and labourers to commercial, civil and mining construction, non-process infrastructure, and structural, mechanical and piping work, from Perth to the Pilbara.
The website has two audiences. Contractors and procurement teams who need crews, and workers looking for their next role.
Koorta Boodjar already had brand guidelines and a capability statement: a set palette, a sunburst symbol, and the Bidi artwork. The job was to carry that design language onto the web exactly, not to invent a new look.
The artwork had to be structure, not decoration. Bidi means path in Noongar. It represents people's paths, knowledge shared across generations and walking together. Faded into the background it becomes wallpaper. It needed to run through the page.
The search side started from nothing. A new business on a new domain, in a market where "labour hire perth" is a hard search to rank for.
Every page opens on a full-width photograph, led by a sunrise over the Stirling Range on the homepage, with the Bidi ribbon running across the base of the hero in the same band order as the original artwork. The sunburst sits in the hero, and the same ribbon divides the sections and frames the footer.
Colours come straight from the brand guidelines, and the scarlet in the logo is kept for the logo only.
We pulled live keyword data for both audiences before setting a single title. Three findings shaped the site:
The worker side is bigger and easier. "fifo jobs perth" is searched about 2,200 times a month with almost no competition. The Careers page now lists the 22 roles they recruit for, so it can rank for searches like "boilermaker jobs perth".
"mining recruitment perth" was the best commercial search on the board. It's reachable for a new site, where most labour hire searches are much harder.
Hardly anyone searches "Aboriginal labour hire". Being Aboriginal-owned is what wins the tender once a contractor lands on the site, so it's treated as the reason to choose them, not as a traffic source.
| Search | Volume | Difficulty |
|---|---|---|
| fifo jobs perth | 2,200 | 0 |
| labour hire perth | 400 | 57 |
| construction labour hire | 300 | 39 |
| trade assistant jobs perth | 300 | 0 |
| boilermaker jobs perth | 250 | 0 |
| mining recruitment perth | 200 | 25 |
| aboriginal labour hire | 0 | n/a |
A site that carries someone's artwork has to render it cleanly everywhere. Every page was checked at four screen widths before launch for sideways scrolling, colour contrast and broken links.
The artwork belongs to the family, so the job was to carry it, not redesign it. Every colour, band and symbol on the site traces back to their own brand guidelines.
Koorta Boodjar is a new business on a new site, so this page describes the build, not results. We'll add those once there is something real to report.
A 12 page website for an Aboriginal-owned labour hire and workforce business in Western Australia: Home, Our Story, Ken Colbung Story, Capabilities with five sector pages, Careers, Safety and Contact. It was built from the client's own brand guidelines, with their Bidi artwork running through every page, plus keyword targeting, 41 questions in FAQ schema and an llms.txt file.
As structure rather than decoration. The Bidi ribbon runs across the base of every hero in the same band order as the original artwork, divides the sections and frames the footer. The sunburst from the brand sits in the hero. The artwork is shown at full strength, never faded into the background.
The logo and the Bidi artwork were designed by Lalita and Tameeka Colbung, and they are credited on the Koorta Boodjar website. Source Digital's job was to carry their artwork onto the web faithfully, not to redesign it. Any question about the artwork goes to the artists.
Target both sides of the market. Contractor searches like "labour hire perth" are competitive, while worker searches like "fifo jobs perth" are bigger and easier. For Koorta Boodjar we set every title from real search data, listed 22 roles on the Careers page, and answered real contractor questions in FAQ schema.
Yes. We work from the business's own brand, artwork and cultural guidance, credit the artists, and check anything cultural with the family before it goes live. We don't use stock photos of Aboriginal people, and we never imply a track record a business doesn't have yet.
It's a custom static website, hand-built in HTML and CSS and hosted on Netlify, with no CMS or page builder. That keeps it fast and secure, and it lets the artwork and layout be built exactly to the brand guidelines instead of fitted into a template.
If you have brand guidelines, artwork or a capability statement and a website that doesn't match them, we can build a site that carries your brand properly and gets found.
