Is ServiceM8 or Tradify better?
Neither is better for everyone. In ServiceM8 vs Tradify, ServiceM8 usually wins for small crews on iPhones who want to start free and pay by the job. Tradify usually wins for crews on a mix of iPhone and Android who want a simple per user price and progress invoicing for bigger jobs.
Both are mature tools, built in Australia and New Zealand, and used by thousands of tradies. Both do the core jobs well: quotes, scheduling, job notes and photos, invoices and payments, and a sync to Xero. The differences that actually change your decision are smaller and more practical:
- How you're charged. ServiceM8 charges by jobs a month. Tradify charges by user.
- Which phones your crew carry. ServiceM8 is built for iPhone and iPad, with an Android app in beta. Tradify runs on both.
- Which accounting package you use. ServiceM8 connects to Xero, QuickBooks Online and MYOB. Tradify lists Xero and QuickBooks.
The rest of this guide goes through each one with real numbers, then gives a verdict by business type.
How much do ServiceM8 and Tradify cost in Australia?
ServiceM8 costs from $0 to about $349 a month in AUD including GST, depending on how many jobs you do. Tradify costs about $48 to $62 per user a month in AUD ex GST, depending on the plan. These are published prices as of November 2026, rounded.
| ServiceM8 plan | Price a month (inc GST) | Jobs a month |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0, 1 user | 30 |
| Starter | About $29 | 50 |
| Growing | About $79 | 150 |
| Premium | About $149 | 500 |
| Premium Plus | About $349 | 1,500, then 20c a job |
| Tradify plan | Price per user a month (ex GST) | Inc GST |
|---|---|---|
| Lite | About $48 | About $52.80 |
| Pro | About $52 | About $57.20 |
| Plus | About $62 | About $68.20 |
| Custom | On request | On request |
Because one charges by jobs and the other by people, the cheaper side of ServiceM8 vs Tradify flips depending on your business. Here's a like for like comparison including GST, using Tradify Pro, since most crews need its timesheets and job costing:
- Sole trader, 40 jobs a month: ServiceM8 Starter about $29. Tradify Pro about $57.20.
- 3 person crew, 120 jobs a month: ServiceM8 Growing about $79. Tradify Pro about $171.60.
- 6 person crew, 400 jobs a month: ServiceM8 Premium about $149. Tradify Pro about $343.20.
- 2 person crew doing 600 quick call outs a month: ServiceM8 Premium Plus about $349. Tradify Pro about $114.40.
So for most small crews, ServiceM8 is cheaper on the sticker price. High volume, small team businesses like pest control or quick service call outs are where Tradify's per user price comes out ahead. Plan features also differ on both, so check that the plan you price has what you'd actually use. ServiceM8 charges 10c for each extra SMS.
What are the main feature differences between ServiceM8 and Tradify?
On features, ServiceM8 vs Tradify is closer than the pricing suggests. Both quote, schedule, track jobs, invoice and take payments. The differences are in phones, accounting connections and what sits on each plan.
| Feature | ServiceM8 | Tradify |
|---|---|---|
| Pricing basis | Jobs a month | Per user a month |
| Try before you pay | Free plan, 1 user and 30 jobs | 14 day free trial, no credit card |
| Mobile apps | iPhone and iPad, Android app in beta since August 2026 | iPhone and Android |
| Quotes, invoices and payments | Yes | Yes, online and card payments on every plan |
| Accounting | Xero, QuickBooks Online and MYOB | Xero and QuickBooks |
| Timesheets and job costing | Yes | On Pro and Plus |
| Quote and invoice reminders | Check the plan | Automatic on Pro and Plus |
| Progress invoicing | Check the plan | On Pro and Plus |
| Purchase orders | Check the plan | On Plus |
| AI tools | Check the plan | Plus reads bills and writes descriptions |
| Add-ons | Add-ons such as asset management | Add-ons such as an instant website |
Where a cell says check the plan, it's because the feature split changes between plans and add-ons, not because it's missing. Run your three most common jobs through each trial and you'll know within a week.
Which is easier for a crew to use on site?
Both are easy enough for a crew to pick up in a day. The real question is which phones your crew carry, because a job app nobody opens on site is worth nothing.
ServiceM8 was designed around the iPhone, and it shows. If your whole team is on iPhones, it's quick, clean and well tested. In August 2026 ServiceM8 opened a beta of a rebuilt Android app that's much closer to the iPhone version, but it's still a beta. If half your crew carry Android phones, test it on real jobs before you commit.
Tradify runs on both iPhone and Android, which makes it the safer pick for mixed crews and for businesses that hand out whatever phone is on special. On Pro and up, the crew can log timesheets, add job photos and files, and see job notes from site.
Either way, start the crew on three things only: open the job, add photos, mark it done. Add timesheets and forms once those stick.
Do ServiceM8 and Tradify work with Xero and MYOB?
Both work with Xero, which is what most Australian tradies use. ServiceM8 also connects to QuickBooks Online and MYOB. Tradify lists Xero and QuickBooks sync on every plan, including Lite.
If you're on MYOB, ServiceM8 is the straightforward choice, or ask Tradify directly what it supports for your MYOB version before you sign up. If you're on Xero, either will do the job, and the decision comes back to pricing and phones.
Before you switch on any sync, sit down with your bookkeeper for 20 minutes. Agree the account codes, GST settings and who owns the customer list. A sync set up wrong pushes the same mistake into every invoice.
What is a good Tradify alternative?
ServiceM8 is the most common Tradify alternative, especially for iPhone crews and businesses that would rather pay by the job than by the user. Fergus is the other one most Australian tradies look at, and bigger contractors move to AroFlo or simPRO.
- ServiceM8: free to start, then about $29 to $349 a month including GST as of November 2026, priced by jobs.
- Fergus: from about $53 a month for Essentials and about $77 for Pro on its Australian pricing page as of November 2026, which doesn't say whether GST is included. Pro adds job phases, purchase orders and SWMS, which suits plumbers, electricians and builders.
- AroFlo: from about AUD $80 per user a month with a 3 user minimum, for maintenance and compliance heavy contractors.
- simPRO: quote only, for established contractors running service and project work at scale.

Where does Omega CS fit with ServiceM8 or Tradify?
Omega CS isn't trying to replace the invoicing side of ServiceM8 or Tradify. Both are more mature for invoicing, payments and accounting integrations, and Omega CS doesn't do invoicing, payments, payroll or accounting sync. Where it fits is the part before the job: answering the lead and chasing the quote.
A study by MIT and InsideSales found leads contacted within 5 minutes were 21 times more likely to qualify than leads contacted at 30 minutes. Most tradies can't reply in 5 minutes from a roof or a ceiling. Omega CS does it for them:
- Texts every new web form, Facebook and Instagram lead back in seconds from your own Australian mobile number, asks the job details and scores the lead cold, warm or hot.
- Follows up quotes until the customer says yes or no, and texts back missed calls. It doesn't answer phone calls.
- A quoting agent drafts quotes from your prices and materials, and a scheduling agent sequences jobs by location, crew and priority.
- Crew get a text each evening to log time and expenses, and a photo of a receipt is read, categorised and has the GST worked out.
You can run it in front of ServiceM8 or Tradify, or use it as an alternative if your billing already runs through your accounting software. Migration from either is done for you in the setup. Plans start from $199 a month + GST. See how Omega CS works, or our custom CRM for tradies page.
Should you choose ServiceM8 or Tradify for your business?
Choose ServiceM8 if your crew is on iPhones and your job count is steady. Choose Tradify if your crew is on mixed phones or you do a high volume of quick jobs with a small team. Here's the ServiceM8 vs Tradify verdict by business type:
| Your business | Pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Sole trader starting out | ServiceM8 | The free plan covers 30 jobs a month, and Starter is about $29 including GST. |
| 3 to 6 person crew, all on iPhone | ServiceM8 | Priced by jobs, so adding staff doesn't change the bill. |
| Crew on a mix of iPhone and Android | Tradify | Runs on both today, no beta app to rely on. |
| Small team doing hundreds of quick call outs | Tradify | Per user pricing beats per job pricing at high volume. |
| Bigger jobs paid in stages | Tradify Pro or Fergus | Progress invoicing on Tradify Pro, job phases on Fergus Pro. |
| Business on MYOB | ServiceM8 | MYOB is a listed integration. |
| Builder with a long sales cycle | Omega CS plus your accounting software | Months of follow up from enquiry to contract. See CRM for builders. |
If you're still split, take the ServiceM8 free plan and the Tradify 14 day trial at the same time and run a week of real jobs through both. Ask the crew which one they'd keep. That answer usually settles it.
