What does SEO for roofers involve?
SEO for roofers is setting up your website and Google Business Profile so you show up when people in your area search for the roofing work you want. Roofing has two very different kinds of customer, and the SEO has to serve both.
- The leak and storm customer. Water is coming through the ceiling. They search "roof leak repair" or "storm damage roofer", look at the map pack and call fast.
- The restoration and re-roof customer. They've been looking at faded tiles or rusty sheets for a year. They search, read, compare three or four roofers, study the photos and ask for quotes.
The first is won with your profile, reviews and a fast storm page. The second is won with detailed service pages and project galleries that show roofs like theirs. Most roofing websites have neither, just a home page and a slideshow.
How much does SEO for roofers cost?
Ongoing SEO for roofers with Source Digital starts from $950 a month + GST, with no lock-in contract. Restorations and re-roofs are high value jobs, so do the maths on your own margin: how many extra jobs a year would cover it?
| What you need | Cost (ex GST) | When it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Ongoing SEO + AEO | From $950 a month | You want a steady flow of restoration and repair enquiries |
| AEO audit | From $1,500, one off | You want a fix list for your current site and profile |
| New roofing website | $3,250, fixed price | Your site has one page, no galleries, or doesn't exist |
| Landing page for ads | From $950 | A storm season or restoration campaign on Google Ads |

Which roofing services should have their own page?
Every job you want more of, because homeowners search for the job, not "roofer". A tile restoration customer and a gutter customer type completely different things.
| Page | Searches it targets | What it needs |
|---|---|---|
| Roof restoration | "roof restoration", "tile roof restoration", "rebed and repoint" | Each step you do, what's included, how long it takes, before and afters |
| Re-roofing | "re-roof", "replace tile roof with Colorbond" | Materials you use, when restoring isn't worth it, how long a re-roof takes |
| Roof leak repairs | "roof leak repair", "roof leaking after rain" | How you find the leak and what you check while you're up there |
| Storm damage | "storm damage roof repair", "emergency roof tarp" | Number first, make safe work, help with insurance photos if you offer it |
| Gutters and downpipes | "gutter replacement", "gutter guard installation" | Profiles, colours and gutter guard options |
| Metal roof repairs | "metal roof repairs", "rusty roof sheets" | Sheet replacement, screws, flashings, when a full re-roof makes more sense |
Restoration is usually the page worth the most effort. It's high value, people research it for weeks, and a detailed page with real projects is what moves you from small repairs to bigger jobs.
How do roofers rank for storm damage searches?
By getting ready before the storm, not after it. Storm searches spike within hours of bad weather, and a new page won't rank in that time. The roofers who get those calls already have a storm damage page, a complete Google profile and recent reviews.
- Build the storm page months before the season. In Perth that means before the winter fronts. On the east coast, before summer storm and hail season.
- Say exactly what the first visit involves: make safe, tarp, photograph the damage, quote the repair.
- Explain how insurance works with you, if you provide photos or reports for claims. It's one of the first things storm customers ask.
- Post on your Google Business Profile when a storm is forecast, so your profile looks active.
- Have Google Ads ready to switch on. Paid ads are the only way to add reach on the day, and you can switch them off once you're booked out.
Storm customers are also wary of door knockers who appear after bad weather. A licence or registration number, a real address and reviews from locals help you stand apart from operators who vanish once they're paid.
How should roofers use project galleries for SEO?
Turn each good job into a small project page instead of one big slideshow. Most roofing galleries are invisible to Google: 40 unlabelled photos named IMG_4821. A project page can rank for the job and the suburb.
For every project worth showing:
- Before and after from the same angle, ideally one from the street and one from the roof or a drone.
- A short write up: suburb, roof type, what was wrong, what you did and how long it took. For example, "Concrete tile restoration in Baldivis, rebed and repoint plus two coats of membrane, 3 days".
- Descriptive file names and alt text, so Google knows what each photo shows.
- Compressed images, so the page still loads fast on a phone.
- Links to and from the matching service page.
Twenty properly written projects do more than two hundred loose photos. They also give AI tools real examples to point to when someone asks who restores tile roofs in their area.
Why do homeowners choose one roofer over another online?
Mostly proof and clarity. Roofing quotes can be thousands of dollars apart, and a homeowner can't easily check the work on their own roof, so they lean on what they can see before they call.
- Your licence or registration number where your state requires one, and your insurance.
- What your warranty covers, in plain words.
- A price guide or typical range for common jobs. Even a rough range filters out people who were never going ahead.
- Roof and drone photos in your quotes and on your site, so people see what you saw.
- Reviews that mention the job and the suburb.
When we built the site for Perth Ceiling Contracting, a ceiling contractor working from Yanchep to Rockingham, prices went on the site for exactly this reason. Every one of its 12 pages was mapped to a real search, and 79 questions went into FAQ schema so people and AI tools get answers before they pick up the phone.
Do roofers need SEO if most work comes from referrals?
Not always. If you're booked out for months on referrals and builder work, SEO won't add much you can actually take on. It's worth the money when you want more of a particular job, such as moving from repairs to restorations, or when referrals slow down in the off season.
SEO for roofers is also the wrong tool for an empty diary next week. A new page takes 2 to 3 months to start picking up local searches. For quick work, Google Ads for tradies is faster, and a properly set up Google Business Profile costs nothing but time.
How I run SEO for a roofing business
- Map the searches. I pull live keyword data for each roofing service in the areas you cover, so every page has a real search behind it.
- Fix your Google Business Profile. Services, service area, hours, photos and a review request after every job.
- Build the service and storm pages with plain answers near the top and structured data behind them.
- Turn your best jobs into project pages, using the photos you already have on your phone.
- Track every call and form in GA4 and report in plain words on what came in and what's next.
It's the same method as our wider SEO for tradies service, set up for how roofing customers search. If your current site can't carry project pages well, we'd start with a rebuild from our websites for tradies range.
